Barking Owl 2008 Shiraz Viognier is rated 91 points by wine expert James Halliday. The 2008 vintage red varieties achieved outstanding flavour ripeness, colour and tannin development.

The Shiraz and Viognier were co-fermented for two weeks in open fermenters and hand plunged to extract good colour and flavour. The wine has been aged in new (5%) and one and two year old oak for 18 months. Deep ruby-magenta red in colour, it has a rich aroma, spicy and peppery with lifted red fruit of cherry and redcurrant supported by lifted Viognier aromatics over vanillin oak. Dry, soft, ripe tannins with plum and cherry flavours are enhanced with spicy supporting oak.

A well balanced wine that over delivers in fruit weight and flavour. Enjoy now or cellar for 3 to 5 years. Barking Owl winery is rated 5 stars by wine expert James Halliday. The name is derived from the Barking Owls which live in the forests surrounding the vineyard and on a moonlit night, can be seen perched at the end of the vineyard rows.
