Tasmanian Wines

Tasmania is producing quality wines from grapes grown in a climate similar to Europe with mild summers and long autumn days allowing the grapes to ripen slowly. The result of this cooler climate is wines of light to medium body, good high levels of natural acid and grapes of adequate ripeness in terms of sugar levels.

With the first vineyard planted in 1921, Tasmania now has over 60 vineyards and wineries producing award winning varieties such as Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Gris and Sparkling Wine. The variety of producers matches the variety of grapes grown and the industry has much to offer the consumer and visitor.
